This was posted on the Works section and I wanted to get it posted here.
Someone was looking for a tool to search for Stored Procedure and an old routine FindInFiles was brought up. I and others have made modifications to this routine, originally written by Cameron Purdy, and I have merged Oystein's changes with My changes .. then fixed some errors that were found and so .. without further ado ..
Newest version found HERE
It is a Sysprog Check out .. Try it if you need a "searching" tool. Works with any file available ..

Thanks for the latest version of FindInFiles (my most often used utility). I especially like (and agree with) the 'about' box!

DSig,
I must admit I forgot to download and install your new version until now. But now that I did I'm happy to tell you I found 17 new errors in your program..... ...hahahaha! Just joking!
Just one detail: I first couldn't get the About button to work. It helped to recompile the FindInFiles subroutine. I don't know why. I first thought your newest checkout didn't contain the FindInFiles subroutine executable, causing the old version to run, but it seems the newest checkout does contain an executable.
You ask for ideas for features. There's one thing that springs to mind:
After you've done a search and found your rows you often need to check each occurrence of the search string. So there should be something that helps you spot the occurrences. As the system is now you must switch to the System Editor, open the row, and do the same search again. In the case where you need to edit the row this extra work is unavoidable, but often you just need to inspect the row.
I can think of two alternatives:
- Some possibility of searching for the search string within the found document. Say F3 finds and highlights the next occurrence, F4 the previous one.
- An option for switching on a "hits" column in the viewer, showing
the number of hits in each line - similar to the option of switching on line numbers.
If you think my idea(s) is worth considering, don't go ahead and implement it until I get a chance to discuss it a bit more.
