==== 3-D Look on Prompt (OpenInsight 32-Bit) ====

I upgraded a system from 7.1 to 7.11 and found that the prompts on the forms all have a blue line around them. I could probably live with the line but all the prompts went from a 3-d look to a flat look. I changed the style on the prompt to have borders. This helped but it is still nowhere like it was without borders in version 7.1. Am I missing something?
How can I get my 3-d look on the prompt without going to every prompt in the system and putting a border on the style?

Jeff,
OI 7.1.1 ships with a manifest file that automatically gives all of your forms an XP themed look when you are using an XP theme. If you want to disable this across the board then just delete or rename the oinsight.exe.manifest file that is in your OpenInsight application folder.

Thanks Don
This fixed the problem. Is there a way to make this manifest configuration be workstation specific. Or is it just a system wide setting?

Jeff,
The nature of the manifest file is that it is system wide. However, you could change the desktop theme to Windows Classic and you will get your regular 3D appearance all the time for that workstation.
The only other option I can suggest is to apply Carl Pate's method for programmatically disabling XP themes for OpenInsight controls. This technique was meant as a way to disable themes for certain controls but you could adapt it to disable themes for every control and then make it workstation and/or user login specific.
Is there a reason you don't like or want the XP themed (aka flat) look? Why would you want it on some workstations but not on others (or are you thinking of making this a preference setting for each user?)

Jeff and Don,
The manifest file which creates an XP-themed interface is system-wide, but it is applied depending on the user preferences of each workstation. When a user selects the XP-theme for his workstation, he gets an XP-theme interface in OI; when he selects a Classic theme, he gets the Classic interface.
Now my questions is, if the user has specified the XP-theme for his interface, why would we want to override this and force him to use the Classic interface in OI?

Gerald,
You are pretty much restating what I already asked. My guess is that they want to make this optional to the end user. On that basis I can see why. XP theme is fun and cool but sometimes it does make certain screens hard to read, especially if you are using the Tab control. Everything seems to get washed out.

My only reason is 1. The client asked that it not change because we didn't want to confuse the users as to another look. (Sometimes they are a little touchy when something looks different) and 2. I thought it would be cool to be able to control it. (if it were easy) I don't want any big project just to control this. I will experiment with changing the different themes and see what happens.
Thanks

Hi Jeff,
" client asked that it not change..." Now that's what I call a valid reason.
I gather that you are not enamored with the XP-theme? I notice it takes more work to get form layouts to display well in both themes. I understand that Classic is based on 16-bit library metrics, and XP-theme is based on 32-bit libraries. This means that looking forward, it is a good idea to test all your forms in XP-theme to guarantee future layout compatibility, even if you are supporting only classic display with the client now.
