I would be interested in the answer to this as well. I received Riverbed's lastest release information the other day. We run on a WAN and we incur bottlenecks, system latency issues, the usual, etc.
I don't know if this an option for us, we would have to research but knowing if OI will run in companion with RiverBed, it may be an option.

A quick read of the docs says that they do more than just compression. If they are caching data then you might have problems.
Terminal server with 2x or similar product is a good way to publish OI across a WAN. Will not work if you have an app that interacts with the user's desktop, by reading emails or creating spreadsheets, for example.
