OCX or DLL for Graphs (OpenInsight 32-Bit)

At 29 SEP 2004 12:35:18AM Steve Epstein wrote:

I would like to add an OCX or DLL to a form that would display an EXCEL like graph on a form. The graph would be just an X-Y line graph, with the data coming from an edit table on the form.

Any ideas?

Jim …

I downloaded their demo .OCX, but if you have a couple of examples of how you coded with it, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Can you not use the chart ocx from Office? ie MSChart20Lib.MSChart

You should have an example code of how to use in the v7 help or somewhere else.

Richard is correct. There is an example in the OI 7 Help.

We did this prior to OCX support, so we use the DLL.

FYI - After installing or upgading to MS XP SP2, the MSChrt20.ocx no longer exists. In addition, if you copy one in from a previous version of XP and register it, it still will not work. The example shown in OI Help uses this ocx and will no longer work.

Bill,

Not sure about that statement - when I did the prev post I cut and pasted from the text from the control viz MSChart20Lib.MSChart and that ocx was definately working. WinXP SP2 + Office 2003.

On run I was seeing 3D histergrams, ordinary graphs etc.

BTW a search of my PC (WinXP SP2 / Office 2003) I locate MSChrt20.ocx in WinSys/System32 and version is v6.0.88.4 (23 May 2000). All working.

Hi Richard. I could not find it on my machine and could not get it to work after registering it and am now finding it in the search of the registry after re-registering it . I became involved when a Works member reported that none of the XP SP2 machines at his client's site were able to run the example shown in the OI help. Trying it inhouse we found that a pre SP2 machine we tested had it in the registry and worked fine. The SP2 machine did not. Another developer reported other issues with SP2. I'm throwing my 2 cents in because others have asked about OI and SP2. I've not had problems besides this and you do not have a problem so regarding SP2 "Let the upgrader beware." As to my original statement, I'll amend it to say this is what is going on at my end. Someone asked me if we were going to "fix" this. It would appear that if there are problems with running Microsoft controls after a Microsoft patch to a Microsoft OS, then there should be a "fix" coming from Microsoft.

Hi Bill,

I guess my earlier reaction had been - well I dont have that problem; and certainly OI seems OK. Glad you have got the OCX working now .

But I grant you that the SP2 has thrown up the odd interesting side issue - and I would happily strangle the MS person that decided that I had to have a firewall on my PC in a secure Lan, and chooses to remindme every logon. My view, as you now indicate, is it is a (random) Microsoft deployment issue rather than OI issue. Can tell you that I held my breath when I tested out Remote Desktop & OI after the upgrade. Can never take things for granted.
