32bit Java development with access to Arev/OI (OpenInsight)

Just a quick note Java access to Advanced Revelation/OpenInsight and beyond.

We have developed a Java 1.3 level product that you can use to access your OI data, and as a base for developing your 32bit Java applications as extensions to your OI apps or independently. The product is called ProJect and will integrate in LiveWater/jRev when it is released, as well as in other standard GUI Java development tools (Ex: Sun?s Forte).

Our company is in the process of delivering ProJect as a set of 100% pure Java controls that access Arev/OI data through XML. The product consists of data-enabled controls on the front end and database specific ( OI in this case) back-ends. With ProJect, you can create database enabled Java screens without a lot of code, quickly and easily, and in the same manner as OI/ARev.

Our tool (InsiTech ProJect) accesses the data through a web server and uses XML as the mode of communications between client and server.Access to linear hash is currently done through the OICGI gateway, with future plans to eventually bypass it. Future releases of ProJect will include access to Oracle/MS SQL/Access/etc, therefore giving developers freedom to choose between database back-ends without changing the developed Java screens.

We developed ProJect with the goal of making the development of data-enabled screens in Java straight forward, and based on setting properties ( table name, column name, etc) rather than writing reams of code. On the front end we have created Java controls that have the Arev/OI feel( reads on lostfocus of primary key, pre/post focus events, multivalued or relational db access, variable length fields, etc.). Since everything is pure Java, developers can integrate these controls in their favorite Java development environment ( Sun's Forte, Livewater/JRev, Visual Cafe, etc) and then drag and drop the controls to create forms.

As far as LiveWater goes, we have looked closely at the betas and believe that, when completed, it will be a great tool to use and ProJect will compliment it. You will not, however, be tied to LiveWater or OI in any way.

We are currently in the process of writing the documentation and plan to make the public announcement at our website shortly as far as licensing and pricing goes. If you would like some more information, have any comments or questions, send us an email or visit our website.
