Is there anyway of accessing a printer on an intranet as LPT2, for Arev3.12 printing…The printer is a standalone device on the intranet with a "node" address in the printer's "Print to the following address" properties.

Barry,
Good news! Sure is! I have a customer that does that.
All their computers have LPT1 set as their local printer. Then using LPT2 as a laser printer, and LPT3 as a dot matrix printer. Printers 2 and 3 are on the intranet and have their own unique ip addresses.
I do not know how they set printers 2 and 3 up. They are connected to their own hub device, and that hub device is hooked into the main hub. They are using some software on the server to ummm… control the printers.
Now, what I do know is how the workstations connect or capture the printers 2 and 3.
here is how…
In the printer's properties, click the "details" tab. In the "print to the following port" they have "\\server\hp4". "Server" being the name or id of the server, and "hp4" being the name of the printer.
To add the printers, use the "add printer" wizard. Use the "network printer". Next, in the "network path or queue name" you just put the path of the printer (like "\\server\hp4" or use the browse button). then capture the printer port and you are set!

Barry, you can NET USE with the UNC name (\\SERVER\devicename) of the printer. It is common for IP-address printers to be accompanied by proprietary drivers and setup utilities (Canon & HP). A spooler may also be required.
