This is AREV 3.12. I can seem to do other things, just not use EDIT. I have even re-installed on another machine (which works perfectly) and tried numerous copying processes, including: the DOS files for SYSOBJ; just $EDIT from SYSOBJ, select 40 largest and COPYROWS SYSOBJ to another file and transfer this to original machine; and AREV.EXE. None of these have fixed the problem with EDIT. I cannot use the install disks to re-install on original machine (failure on 2nd disk of Upgrade). I have also tried copying the contents of Disk 2 (UPGRADE.2) onto another floppy, but this too fails to read successfully.

The fault originally started when I was editting a program and then decided to see how far it could go in TCL levels and kept pressing and got to level 14 when it came up with error saying that I had gone past maximum level 9 (well and truly!) and then could not proceed. Could not break out either. I do not have a backup.

Yes, that was it! Brilliant, but how obscure! I renamed the AREVC.INI and AREVM.INI to *.OLD so that I can continue my investigation as to what is different

Thanks again.
