I am looking for help. We are converting a customer from AREV to OI and we need to continue to print on multi-part forms. In AREV, the dot matrix printers do the trick. We would like to print in draft mode on an Epson dot matrix printer and be able to set 10 cpi or 12 cpi.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted. However, printing multiple copies on a laserjet, inkjet or deskjet is not an option.

Thank you and Happy Holidays.

Joshua,

Your best option is to use the Direct Print add on utility from Splaver Software. This will allow you to preserve your AREV legacy code and allow you to print directly to your dot matrix printer using their internal fonts (rather than Windows fonts). It will be just as if AREV was doing the printing but directly from within OI. We have used this in a few applications with great success.

Hi Joshua:

Try creating your printer as Generic Text only. I'm not sure if this will work but it's worth a try.

Hi Bob,

Using the Generic Text Only driver does improve the situation but it doesn't give the same affect as printing directly to the printer. You are still using the Window's print engine and therefore lose control. Especially printer codes that require Char(27) to be embedded.

Not that I want to eliminate Tony Splaver from getting some well deserved income from his products (he created the OIPI and OIWAM…both products are now moot in OI 32-bit) but it might be worthwhile if Revelation provided this feature as well. There are other reasons why direct access to the port is handy, like controlling cash registers. I'll post this in the suggestion box.

Joshua,

You might want to try to set the font to "Courier New". And set the height (subvalue 2) to "-11" for 12cpi, or "-12" for 10cpi. I do not have an Epson printer to test it on.
