Running NT client & server. Using the NT Service.

Importing ASCII-CSV file, the importing PC gets this error.

MFS Audit

FS 231

MFS RTP 57

Then it blows her out of Arev and looses the file.

Also, I'd like to ask about importing ASCII. When we import it says "this file already exists, do you want to erase it?" We say NO, but it always renumbers and gives us a fresh file number. The info is all there but why does it take a new number for the file?

Thanks for any help

Donna

It would appear that the target file has a Modifying Filing System attached to it (most likely named "AUDIT").

The import process is generating an error condition that the MFS may or may not be catching. You may want to edit the record "FS231" in the MESSAGES or SYS.MESSAGES (or what ever they are called in 3.x) to see what the error is.

If not, create a temp file and change the import to update the temp file and examine the records imported (provided it imports to completion). If not at least you'll get an idea of what record the import is choking on.

I'm not sure by what you mean by "file number". Is this the record key? ASCII import allows you to create record keys from either one of the columns of data or use a sequential number. If you don't clear the target file and use sequential numbers for the record key it is possible it will scan the file for existing keys and use the next highest number. Perhaps that is what is going on.

Warren, thanks for the insight on the Sysmessages. I will look into that.

What I meant by file renumbering is this. Let's say my target file is Rev10001.* when listing Revmedia. Then I import the Ascii file, and yes there are some records already in the file (hand entered). The popup states that the file exists and do I want to clear it. I say "no" but it creates a new Rev file number i.e. Rev10001.* now becomes Rev100004.* (or the next open number). Why does it change the REV file number when I say 'no' to the clearfile question? All records are there when I am done but I have a new Rev name for the file.

Creating a new REVxxxxx number appears to be normal behavior for ASCII IMPORT, at least in version 2.12. I don't have 3.12 available at the moment.

Don't ask my why, perhaps someone at RTI or Aaron Kaplan can provide us insight as to the rational behind this behavior.

As far as the message goes, odds are it isn't in the messages file as this doesn't appear to be a 'stock' ARev error number (at least it isn't in my files).

If possible contact the developer or find the source code for the AUDIT MFS.
