Choose Win2000 or win98 for development? (OpenInsight Specific)

Well, I've read a lot of posts regarding the "kinks and quirks" of OI and AREV in w2k and win98, but I still wonder what the latest preferences are. I have not done much development in the past year or so, but expect to be cranking up again soon. I have been using w2k for a year or so and do not plan to move to xp. I have both w2k and win98 on my desktop, but use mostly win2000 as it is a little better at not crashing, and I can often kill the hung programs with out rebooting….even OI on once I learned to kill the NTVDM.exe Process tree. In general i like w2k better, but sure am interested in what the community likes. Thanks for any comments.

Paxton,
Win2000 I believe is the preferred platform. The only real problem that has been documented is the inability to modify the validation settings for edittables. This is a weird quirk and Revelation has already affirmed that there is no easy fix. However, OI32 does not have this problem so there are no barriers for developing OI32 on Win2000.
If you have Win98 always available then I would definitely develop in Win2000 and switch to Win98 for the occasional edittable validation change. There are other workarounds as well (previously documented in other threads) but I prefer to avoid them if possible.

We'd concur with Don, opinion offered not to validate Don (who doesn't need it) but to ensure a quorum.

I would stongly agree .. not to start trouble . heck i just got back .. but Win2k survives a lot of problems that 98down causes a reboot for.
The only thing better would be a OI for linux

Thanks for the input everyone.
I had not discovered the edittable validation issue yet, just getting used to the record selection box in the editor not working as in win98, but getting by, figure it is worth it to avoid reboots.
I suspect OI32 will solve a lot of things. Looking foreward to it.
I too am looking for ways to move more work to Linux

Like you I started off with a dual boot Win98 / Win 2000 and discovered that over time I hardly ever used used Win98. Even forgot it was on the PC. The new challenge is WinXP - for which Arev & both ver of OI look OK. Havnt tested any with network drivers - but new drivers are on the horizon anyway.
My vote at present would be - for those who have Win98 or Win2000 - a quick smart migration to OI32 when it comes available. Thats what I will be doing for my own clients.
