Group Lock Timeout Error (Networking Products)

I have a number of clients using AREV 2.03 with the Network Performance Pack. The client is using Win95 on most workstations, and Novell 3.12. They have about 45+ workstations on the network.
From time to time, when they start up the application, they get a "Group Lock Timeout Error". The message appears, when they press ENTER, it disappears for a long time, then re-appears. It can sometimes take 20+ minutes before they can finally get to the main menu of the application.
Does any one know what causes this?

If you have 45+ people logging into AREV, I HIGHLY suggest using the NLM. As it is, you have a high number of people all trying to lock files on the workstation level, which would explain the long wait periods. We generally suggest installing the NLM on your system after your userbase grows larger than 5, 10 at the most, due to the performance degradation of the NPP with that many users. Not to mention the chances of GFE's with that many workstations being logged in and having the possibility of exiting AREV abnormally.
