Hi all

A Client has an AREV name and address file and wants to print Laser Labels and wants to have the runtime option of fonts and label types.

I think that the best way is to export the name and address data to an ASCII file and then import the detail into WORD or WORDPERFECT in a format ready for printing Labels or merging into a Mail Merge letter.

The process should be simple:

1 - AREV create an ascii file of Name and Address data

using a simple program to create file with imbedded merge field separators

2 - MS WORD import

3 - MS WORD print labels or letters

I have written AREV programs to print directly to a Laser but I want to try to use the "flexibiity" of MS WORD or WORDPERFECT.

Additional question:

Is there a published format for WORD or WORDPERFECT merge import?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Ted,

It will depend largely on your stationery. There are many label programs about for Courier (fixed width) print - it is common to use the FORM painter tool inside AREV to accomplish this, or symbolics, or a combination of both.

If you wish to use Word, one way is to export the data as an HTML table (see SENL V1.9 on our website for such a program).

then pick it up in Word and manipulate to suit your stationery.

You can export the data in CSV (comma separated value) format (or tabs instead of commas).

All versions of Word can import these directly into Mail Merge.

WordPerfect 2000 and 2002 require ODBC to use CSV files but it's not all the difficult to setup.

I have a WP macro that is called through ARev which automates the merge and printing.

Hi Ted

Avery (the label folks) have inexpensive software to print to any of their label formats. Try www.avery.com (demo software available.) Been a while but the program I setup for one client very easy to use.

May be, I don't understand the question or I am totaly off topic.

a) You ask if WORD/WORDPERFECT are the programs to be used

or

b) You ask how the mentioned programs should be used.

Answers

a) I use TeX. (About 10000 letters a week)

b) I don't now
