Is there any way to get the source for the import_db3 (Parent) routine.

Specifically the dbase header offset info.

I need to write my own routine to osopen a dbf3 file and calculate how many fields. Where the field info starts in the string, and where it ends. Then also where the data begins.

The header layouts for dbase files are well documented. If you need such a beast, then get the docs. After that dbeast files are just ordinary ascii files which you can read & write yourself.

Any idea where? It took me awhile to find the source I did and it is not a complete as it could be.

Yes they are just ascii files after the header but to realistically use them you need to at least know where the data begins and how long a record is. Ideally for a import know the # of fields and field types

is the way to go.

In Arev a user could easliy import a dbase file. In OI if you are using any current version of win95 then your odbc driver is for 32bit and OI does not support this unless you tweak it abit which doesn't always work. If I write my own OI import I can easliy pull xbase files (with or without memo's) in and create LH tables.

ARev 2.12 shipped with the source to the import and export routines, so it should be a pretty simple process to take these programs and modify them for use in other versions of ARev and/or OpenInsight.
