FS481 (AREV Specific)

I realize message FS481 is probably caused, at least in our case, by a collision with the backup process. What I am more curious about is why the strange change in the name of the file? I tried logging on repeatedly until I did not get an error message. Each time I did get an error message, the Arev file was the LISTS file but the DOS file was:
ROV22828._L
ROV22828.IS
ROV22828._C
ROV22828.ST
ROV22828.ST
ROV22828.MP
ROV22828.CT
The correct file names are REV22828.LK and REV22828.OV.

I've seen it several times before. It always seems to happen during backup times. When the backup is finished, everything is back to normal again. I wonder if there is something that the backup software is doing that causes the problem. Interestingly, the "E" turns to an "O" in every case I have seen. At first I thought it was errors caused by router software (we've had that problem before, where individual bits are switched, or skipped). However, the fact it happens during backups makes me think that is not it.

Just a note on this thread –
A client of mine occasionally would have FS481 pop up indicating that a certain table was not available. We were able to track it down to an errant backup process that had "completed" but not released all of its locks. Interestingly, we were not able to kill the errant session (in Novell 4.1) and ended up cycling the server. But once the locks were released, everything else was OK. So ultimately the table was fine; we just were not able to get to it because of the locks.
