I have arev 2.12 running on Novell 3.1xx. I have bumped Arev to 4 users. Everything works well on Novell but I want to be able to use windows applications on the workstations and share resources while running Arev in a dos window. When I do this in windows 98, there is no record locking on any workstation with the windows operation system. Also I must turn off index updating on any windows machines to prevent GFEs.

What do I need to purchase to make Arev work ( in a dos window) using windows 98 or nt/2000. I plan to change from Novell to NT/2000.

Can I run Arev apps in nondedicated mode using 2000?

Any help would be appreciated.

You require the correct Novell client for Windows 9x workstations. Version 2.2.0.0 or 3.1 (without the patches) is usually OK. Do not use the Microsoft client. Disable write behind caching and enable true commit within the client software. Use the Novell Advanced Netware network driver within AREV.

Optionally you could purchase the LH NLM product from Revelation Software. In conjunction with the correct Novell client this improves reliability and reduces the incidence of GFE's to virtually nil under Netware.

Under NT or Win 2000 server you should use the NPP (Network Performance Pack) or preferably the Revelation Software Windows 2000 Service (also referred to as the NT Service). Further details about configuration of these products can be found elsewhere on this website.
