Has anyone experienced index problems when runing the index server on NT server? Our customer is not using the NT service. OI is set up to run indexing on the NT server itself but they seem to be getting either corrupt indexes (some GFE's but not always) or out of date indexes that require rebuilding. Any help appreciated!

I recommend getting NT Service regardless but at least make sure you are using NPP (i.e. All Networks Driver). Also if you have had corruption remove all the indexes from the offending table completely and make sure !bangfile disappears. Then recreate the indexes from scratch.

Thanks for your response. When we have had the problems, the only way to get the index back has been to manually remove them. This means deleting the bang file. We are using the all networks driver. The NT Service use is a cost issue unfortunatley! Since posting this question, I found a long discussion on NT service pack 4. Do you know if this is still a problem with OI? What are the problems with OI and NT SP4?

Many thanks

Ensure that SP4 is on both server and any NT workstations. Otherwise no problems that I know of without the NT Service.

The only workstations are 98. Any specific settings on 98 that need changing? I assume OI is ok to run on the server and the workstations? The server is only used to perform reports/index server.
