Hello everyone,

I'm trying out OI for the first time. I've created a simple form in OI with two buttons on it and several text boxes. The buttons are supposed to invoke INET procedures to read into the form, and write to the form.

When I type in the URL "http://myserver/cgi-bin/oicgi.exe/INET_REPOS?DOC_ID=MYDOC" my server returns a 404 document not found error.

I've verified that OI is running the INET_GATEWAY (I set it up as the entry point for my application). I'm running Microsoft's PWS on my machine to test this stuff out.

I don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt Sorrell

Matt,

myserver must be right or you'd got a different error. cgi-bin too. and oicgi.exe. and INET_REPOS is correct, of course. If the MYDOC entity wasn't defined you'd get "REP300: Entity REGIMUS*DOC*HTML*MYDOC does not exist." Perhaps you defined the entity but the document itself isn't where the entity believes it is? I'm guessing, but it sort of seemed like the only option left.

Matt-

have you tried

This is the local loopback address.

OK firstly get inet_trace working.

Is OICGI renamed as OICGI.EXE in you cgi-bin subdirectory?

Andrew,

Yes it is. My path for OICGI is inetpub\wwwroot\cgi-bin\oicgi.exe

I know the path is valid because if I point my browser to http:\\myserver\cgi-bin\oicgi.exe IE 4.0 then proceeds to attempt and download the file.

BTW, I'm trying to recreate Kurt's example from the conference in Atlanta, with the KB_ENTRY screen.

Also, how do I launch INET_TRACE? And what exactly does it do for me?

Thanks,

Matt

Oystein,

I have my doc file in both the revsoft\oinsight\ directory, which is where OI installed itself, and also in the cgi-bin directory. Should it perhaps be in my wwwroot directory?

Thanks,

INET_TRACE simply verifies that you are talking to OICGI (1st step!). http:\127.0.0.1\oicgi.exe\inet_trace

if you don't get a boat load of stuff back then you're not talking to oicgi - most likely problem is that you have not configured your web browser to look for scripts in cgi-bin.

Let us know if the trace works first.

Andrew,

Nope. I still get the same 404 error. I did verify that I had INET_GATEWAY running.

I believe that I do not have PWS set up correctly. However, I cannot find anything in the PWS help files telling me how to set up a cgi-bin under PWS.

What I've done to set it up is to make the directory out at DOS (\inetpub\wwwroot\cgi-bin\), and then set up the virtual directory entry in PWS. I have set this VD entry to allow read, execute, and script.

At this point, I'm completely confused.

BTW, I cannot use 127.0.0.1, because my machine is currently running on an intranet, so I have to use my machine name. Is it possible I'm running into a conflict with my proxy server?

Andrew,

Thanks for all of your help!!! After doing a search on the discussion list, I found my problem. I merely moved my oicgi.exe file from the cgi-bin directory that I created into the scripts directory already set up by PWS. Once I did that, everything worked beautifully.

INET_TRACE returned a page full of results, my form loaded, and both my Read and Save buttons worked like a charm!!!!

This is totally awesome!!!

Try usng INET_FORMLOAD. To ensure your system is working use INET_TRACE.
