I am currently testing the upgrade to Version 2.1 of the Linear Hash Service on our systems with which we wish to run in pure TCP/IP mode.

AREV is installed on a Win NT4 Server (SP6a)

I have managed to run Arev successfully from a W2K client and the benchmark tests give very good results. I am however unable to run Arev from a NT4 workstation (again running SP6a).

Each time I try I get the following error

Dr Watson for windows NT

An application error has occurred

NTVDM.exe

Exception: access violation (Oxc0000005), Address: 0x00000019

If I alter the Linear Hash 2.1 service to use Named Pipes and TCP/IP I can run AREV from a NT4 Workstation and whilst the benchmarks are better than those running Linear hash 1.5 they are obviously not as good as in the pure TCP/IP mode.

Can you give me any ideas on how I can overcome the above problem with NT workstations running Pure TCP/IP mode.

David,

I'm sorry to hear about the problem with the NTVDM. While you are sorting out the problem, go ahead and use the Namped Pipes-] TCP/IP connection. It should be as fast as the pure TCP/IP connection. Named Pipes are only used to make the TCP/IP connection, if a TCP/IP connection can be made.

If the speeds you are seeing with that connection are more in line with pure Named Pipes as opposed to pure TCP/IP speeds, then I would suspect that the TCP/IP connection is never being made. This might explain why the NT boxes are failing under pure TCP/IP.

Hope it helps,

Kevin
