Wje have a new Compaq Presario 5304 with the Cyrix M CPU. We're running AREV on a Novell 4.11, client 32 network with the NLM. Our other workstations are doing fine. But when you go into AREV with this one you get a message:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated quit all programs and restart. details says it was a general protection exception.

restarting doesn't help. If you persist you can get into AREV with random problems. Frequently when you log off it pops back into the startup screen.

I think this is a DOS memory conflict. My settings on the shortcut are:

Conventional auto protected is checked

initial environment auto

EMS none

XMS none

MSDOS protected mode (DPMI) auto

Any suggestions? Thanks

David,

You should be running EMS. In the shortcut's settings-]Program Tab-]Command Line you should load ARev with /x /m4096. Change your memory tab settings for EMS to 4096 as well.

If you haven't already done so, try loading SP1 for Windows 98.

It would be unusual to run Arev with EMS. You should enable it, to say 2048k and set the Program properties to the same number. DO NOT use AUTO for EMS.

Also remove the Protected Mode flag. Sometimes this alone can cause errors.
