Files periodically appear in the subdirectory where we keep our arev 3.12 application. They have a dos name resembling: R1234567., with various extensions such as I1, I2, VF1, SFX and TB1. Some of them are huge files.

Two Questions: What writes them and can we delete them?

The SFX files are sort files.

The Vx files are viewer files.

The others are for IDX_SETS and other things the system needs temporary files for.

As for deleting them, if they don't have today's date, then go for it. If they do, a user might be using them.

You might want to change the sort path for each user to a local drive. This will cause these files to be created there. The user could then delete these themselves. In any event, the system would be slightly faster.
