My old, old Novell 3.12 server has just died (hard drive failure) and I've restored the AREV directory structure on an NT 4.0 box. After making all the correct mappings, my Win 98 clients will not start AREV and my NT Workstations clients receive the error "Warning! Netware is not responding. The server is inactive or your workstation shell has not been loaded. You will not be able to lock files or records. Use only local files or log out and check your network connection."

Under AREV | Management | System Info the vendor type does state Novell Netware 1.0+ Drv 2.12…

So, what do I need to install to get this fixed. I'm am currently working on moving my old AREV data to SQL Server 7.0 but it's not been a priority in our business.

I can manage around the error but there are some users that still need to access the data until it's all moved over.

Thanks!

You don't say which version of AREV you're on, but it looks like 2.12 or later. The message is due to Novell-style locking calls failing under Windows (they are dfferent, which is why network drivers inside AREV are different).

Try switching to the DOS 3.1 compatible (Byte range) driver in the interim. Try AREV BUMP at the DOS prompt.
