Can someone give advice re the most apprporiate network for arev 2.12 application with 5 users and possibly going up to 10 users. Is there an advantage to novel vs nt?

Hi Harvey ..

You might want to follow the Benchmarks link to get the latest info. My take is the Novell is a bit faster than NT (unless you are an NT guru). In the case of Novell, I would definitely get the NLM. It provides 20-25% more "kick" than the 2000 service for NT. I will probably start a storm with this, though.

Revelation runs fastest with the NLM. However running Novell and NT together can be a source of constant problems, with your database caught in the middle.

If you have NT in your environment then you must run one of the two services or risk file corruption.

If you already have a Novell infrastructure and must work through the NT/Novell issues anyway, then the NLM makes sense.

If you do not have much Novell then the NT service will provide the smoothest implementation.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Is this true with OI as well, i.e., OI run faster with the NLM.

Ray .. happy new year.

Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full. RTP57 is about the same for OI or AREV. Doesn't seem to matter if its split in two (which is what the NLM or NT service does).

Cheers ..
