Situation…
New Server SBS 2011 Standard Server with 10GB RAM with
Revelation UD 4.5 installed and runningLaptop Workstation with Vista Home premium
AREV version 3.1 or 3.12 (either version)
When I launch from DOS prompt, it will launch AREV to the menus,
but with no Expanded MemoryIf I create an icon and launch, I get the following errors…
Error writing to DOS fileAREVC.INIError opening or reading from the INI fileAREVC.INIError writing to DOS fileAREVC.INIError opening or reading from the INI fileAREVC.INIYour DOS path for temporary files is invalidPlease check your environment settingsThe escape sequence "" (hex) isinvalid in ESC.TO.ATTRThe menu will launch, but is "messed up"…unable to read information of forms.
Checked the environment and modified it to use the workstation drive for temp files and sorting…but still same messages.
Set back to default…same messages….
The system works on an existing server/workstation system using
SBS 2003 with Revelation Driver 2.1…but cannot use Revelation Driver 2.1 on x64 bit OS as it is a 16 bit system and will not install.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

This is from workstation configuration problems and has little to do with the server. If the workstation OS is 64bit you will not be able to run 16bit programs.
If you are running Vista or Windows 7 download and intall EMS Magic from http://www.emsmagic.com/ and skip set 1. If these steps don't work on XP Pro use EMS Magic. They may work on Vista or Window7 (32bit) but Microsoft was supposed to have removed EMM support in Vista.
1) Enable expanded memory in the CONFIG.NT file, usually in \Windows\System32. Edit the file and add the lines:
dos-high,umb
EMM=RAM
device=%SystemRoot%\system32\himem.sys
files=60
2) Set the environment settings for execution paths and temp. This has to include where the cmd.exe and command.com are located as well as the arev.exe. There is a character limit to the path variable which I don't recall the size but watch out for this.
3) find the _default.pif, usually in the Windows folder or you have to load it from the Windows install disk. Right click on it and pick properties.
Set Program - cmd.exe. For now leave close on exit unchecked. After you get things up and running uncheck it.
Set Memory - set expand memory to a minimum of 4096. Although ARev only uses 4096kb of EMM if you shell to DOS from ARev and run other programs that need EMM you must set it higher or else the shell from ARev will have 0 EMM available.
Set Misc - uncheck background always suspend, set idle sensitivity to almost all the way High. If print screens from DOS are needed uncheck PrtSc.
Restart Windows and from a command/DOS prompt type "MEM". If EMM is working (with or without EMS Magic) the amount available should be displayed.
