Dave,

I assume you mean email as in internet email and not some internal email system that stays within AREV. I don't believe anybody has written any kind of AREV-based program that will do this. While I'm certain there are people out their who could write a program that would create MAPI (or whatever) compliant emails, but would be a whole new challenge to get this email to be sent. This would require the ability to issue a message to your email client to send the email.

The closest I can suggest would be to use OpenInsight's MAPI functions for this. There is even a sample application that gives you the basics of how to do this.

My question is why would you want to do this? Do you need to track this in AREV somehow? For us, we had to implement a "silent" email feature for one of our OI apps. It's purpose was to notify the officers of the company when certain actions were occuring in the application by other users.

Dave,

I forgot to mention a made-to-order package called S/Mail. This uses OpenInsight's features but is packaged together in a very slick and easy to configure system and it is designed for AREV applications. If you are serious about email implementation for your AREV application then check out this link

If you message could be an attached zip, txt or doc file, you would, with outlook, use the following from AREV:

PERFORM 'SUSPEND C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE\OUTLOOK.EXE(cont'd below)

/folder /c ipm.note /a "C:\':SaveZip:'.ZIP"'

A similar form for Outlook Express or any other mail program that takes parameters (almost all do) could be used. I use this to automatically email my generated update files.

Don or anyone,

I remember that RTI sent out an old mail program for AREV. It was for internal use only (mail not e-mail).

Do you know or anyone have access to the source code.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray,

I've heard of it but don't think I've ever seen it. I wrote a package several years ago and created parallel interfaces for AREV and OI so multiple UI users could share their internal mail.

There is also an open source tool that will do some really interesting things with internet email. It, too, is driven from a DOS command line.

If you need the name of this tool, I can get that from Gary - who has tried it.

I have product that interfaces Arev to Lotus Domino email. Arev writes a text file, and then a Domino agent picks it up and sends it out as internet email.

Let me know if you need more details.

We suspect you refer to AMAIL which was on DUD1 - all of them are collated here.

Hello Dave

I am using sendm@ail from Arev (running in windows), works great. Write email to dos file and execute dos command for sendm@ail. One minor problem, the web site for sendm@ail www.deadsys.com no longer exists. The file is sendml.zip. If you have problems finding it on the web you can contact me at [email protected].
