We have a client that is regularly getting Group Calculation Errors in a single specific index table - They have the 2.1 All Networks Driver running on WIndows 2000 SP3 dedicated server OI 32 4.1.3 - No anti-virus software. Windows 2000 Workstations. Revparams in all Sub Directories.

The Index table gets re-built each time. From the users perspective is that the System hangs or is Locked.

If the users log off and log on and repeat this several times the 'lock' seems to clear. When we check the Windows Event Log there Group Calculation Error messages that matches the 'lock-out' period.

This event has only started to occur since the upgrade to OI32 - 4.1.3.

There is another 16BIT system using the same LH service accessing tables of the same name in different sub-directorires, the 16BIT users are error free.

The users have been using Exployer to 'BACKUP' the sub-directories each morning - without stopping the LH Service. This procedure was also used when the 16BIT system was in place.

We have given them a script that stops and starts the LH service and then does an XCOPY - to see if the copying may be the issue.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

FWIW, I have raised this issue with RTI and here. The cause may not be the same, but the outcome similar, that is, the "system hangs" or "locked" from the user's point of view. We then have to kill OI.

As with your experience, our problem started after upgrading to OI32 4.13. The "system hangs" is resolved by rebuilding the index in the affected Table. We can then restart the process. This is happening at different client sites. We don't have many sites, but as we are starting to deploy more we hope to have some resolution because it is very time-consuming.

Again FWIW as our problem may have no relationship to the problem you are experience, but I find it interesting that your problem started with OI413 as well. Could it be just coincidence…

Good luck,

Ray

It is a wise move to stop and start the service around the XCOPY. Failure to do so can lead to specific GFEs although not normally GCEs. Are any of the DOS files ] 64MB and if so have you run FIXVOL against them?

Yes the tables are larger than 64MB - I'll get the Fix Vol run and advise.

We are also testing 4.1.2 - as we have another site running the same software with 4.1.2 without any issues
