Using OI 4.1.3 - but suspect this is same in all/most versions…

I run OI on a desktop for development & own databases but copy to a laptop when "on the road" (also as backup). Both running on drive C: until … I replaced desktop and now run OI on drive partition D:.

The DBT files written by OI Database Manager include drive letters. Hence I changed the paths to relative so that copy will run on either C: or D: drive.

Runs fine but … Form Designer announces that the dicts are "read only" which they aren't.

REVBOOT has no path reference and attaches fine anyway.

Solution is to do what I do with client apps due to past problems with DBT getting out of synch on remote client sites. App files are excluded from DBT and the appropriate volumes are attached when app starts up. If this is done, then for development one just has to run the app (to attach the app's volumes using relative paths), close it and then open it (and the files are still attached).

Richard,

Hmmm…we have applications deployed under OI versions 3.0 through 7.0 (and virtually every version in-between) and all use relative path pointers to application tables.

Are your application tables underneath REVBOOT, parallel, or in another path? What I'm wondering is if you are experiencing problems with relative path that look like this:

..\VOLUMENAME

We have a few apps that use this form of relative path pointing (in which case VOLUMENAME is parallel to REVBOOT). This works for us but we haven't tested this in all versions of OI.

Don

Thanks. I've been away for three days hence delay in response.

Location is below REVBOOT. For example if REVBOOT is actually C:\OI and the attached volume is C:\OIVOL\DATA, then when one sets up the DBT using OI's manager the DBT contains C:\OIVOL\DATAVOL. I just change it to DATAVOL throughout the DBT.

Then it runs fine from any drive but Form Designer rebels as described.

Maybe using a named vol rather than an actual path might help. What do you think?

Cheers

Richard
