IBM Thinkpad X20 and EMS (AREV Specific)

Have a client with a new IBM thinkpad X20 and they are unable to

IBM claim that it is a software issue but we believe that it may be
a BIOS issue in the same manner that the Compaq EN series had.
Has anyone been able to make EMS available on a thinkpad so that AREV
may be run either stand-alone or networked?
Appreciate any assistance.

What OS? If you've got Win9xx you should be able to use CONFIG.SYS to do this: DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=EMM386.EXEIn that sense IBM is right. If you're using WinME you may need to use a few Registry Hacks. If you're using WinNT derivative you need to check CONFIG.NT.
I don't think that any IBM laptop had the same BIOS issues that COMPAQ had.

Don,
The OS is Win 2000 Pro …..
Client staff have been trying to activate along with their IT
consultants and none of them have been able to make EMS available.
Unfortunately the unit is with IBM so we do not as yet have access
to it to validate the settings but we are concerned that even the
IBM gurus seem not to make EMS available on that unit claiming that
memory is a software matter and not hardware.

Kevin,
We have two A21p laptops both running Win98SE and we cannot get EMS activated either. IBM told us long ago pretty much what you are hearing, i.e., that this is a non-supported software issue. Granted EMS can be critical for many AREV operations, but we are running AREV (local and networked copies) on them. We just have to be careful about how many TCL layers we have going and what kind of RLIST reports we want to run.
