Error W502 while running startup command (AREV Specific)

We have 2 users running Win98SE that access Arev v3.12 from a Novell server. As of last week, only one of them can get in and I have been unable to identify just what changed but I suspect that the change is specific to the workstation.
When starting Arev, once you've logged in there's a prompt at the bottom of the screen that says "Running Startup Command". At this point I get a popup box that says W502 - Unable to Attach the "SHSDATA" location. The next popup says W502 - Unable to Attach the "SHSPROGS" location.
I'm stumped. I can't figure out why one station is running the program fine and the other will not and it doesn't help that we have no Arev documentation around here. I think I've ruled out memory management but I'm not having any success getting Arev running on my test pcs either.
Can anyone please shed some light on this?
Thanks for your time.

Kevin,
Sounds like the connection to the network is flaky. Can you check the NIC?

Alternatively have you changed drive mappings on one of the boxes so it can no longer see these locations?

Thought about that but it appears that these locations are relative to REVBOOT and obviously this machine can see AREV.EXE. Is that a fair assumption?

Drive mappings are fine. Changed, deleted, recreated, copied shortcut off working PC all to no avail. It's not a rights issue afaik, as I have supervisor rights to that directory and it doesn't work for me either.
I doubt it's the NIC, as I've tried to get it running on 3 different PCs now and none of those work either.
What exactly does thw W502 error indicate? Is there anywhere that Arev install and troubleshooting docs are kept online or barring that that I can order a hardcopy from?
Rebuilding a PC ATM to see if that makes a difference and now that I think of it I'm going to check the Novell Client Configuration as well.
Also, after reading this board for several hours yesterday. I'm not too sure we have a standard configuration of Arev. Near as I can tell, both users are merely calling Arev.exe from the server. We don't appear to have any indexing PC and we're not running any Arev related NLMs on the server. Inheritance is a wonderful thing. =/
Thanks for the quick replies!

Well the thinking was he could have volume pointers to another drive named as though they were relative - and our thinking was that if he could get in the NIC was unlikely to be flakey .

A 502 means that the volume pointer is invalid for some reason… (we didn't know that off the top of our head so we had to do a teeny bit of research )

Object oriented support - cool .
Don't worry about this - the configurations you describe are used with several users not just a couple. Smaller systems just share the AREV.EXE off the same server but they can have things called volume pointers that disguise a location like s:\mydata\annual\1987 with a name like AN1987. Hence the thought that if AN1987 were mapped to another drive no longer mapped…

I can't find any Volume Pointers that are named AN*, but you're absolutely right. Something is hardcoded in the program that wants a specific drive letter mapped. This still doesn't explain how the working PC is still working (as it uses a different letter), but it will allow me to get the non-working PC up and running if it works as well as it did on my test pc.

Thanks a MILLION for the help! Just needed a little nudge in the right direction.

That'll teach me to be lazy and not reread the orginal post… I made up the volume names - you originally said Unable to Attach the "SHSDATA" location. The next popup says W502 - Unable to Attach the "SHSPROGS" location. so that's what you're looking for…
and you're welcome
