We have a workstation running Win XPsp1 on a Novell 6.5 server through Novell client 4.9.0 sp1a. When I run AREV 2.12 with NLM 5.0 through on the machine it is about 20 times slower than when it was a windows 98 machine.

The .pif file which runs a batch file (see below)has EMM set to 4096. Screen saver disallowed etc (allthe advice given by the pro's)

In the config.net file I've put in files=200 and EMM=Ram. The autoexec.nt has no leftovers from Windows client that I can see.

It aslso totaly fails to print to LPT1. LPT! get the info but it seems to cut off before the end capture command goes through.

Can anyone help?

Does it work when the PC is off-network and the printer is attached locally?

Check the performance monitor - is CPU utilization pegged at 100%?

There is an omission of IPX in a recent range of version numbers of the Novell Netware client made by Novell. The net result is Arev runs, but very slowly.

Check on Novell's site too ensure your specific Netware client isn't one of these. If it is there is a patch on Novell's site, or you can upgrade to a more recent client.

I posted the answer on Rev's site - but now I can't find it! Sorry.

I have managed to get the XP machine up to speed now (well it's twice as slow as a similar spec'ed Win98 machine compared to 30 times as slow)

This was done when I went into the autoexec.nt file and discovered that things has not been correctly REM'd out and the novel instructions put in when the client 4.9.1 was installed. I also selcted "compatible timer hardware emulation".

The printing has been sorted in that the Print capture and end capture commands were Windows 98 specific and mine is the only XP machine on the network. By creating a batch file that executes the correct XP commands when AREV runs the Win98 commands then it now prints.

The problem I now have is that when I leave AREV alone and do nothing (not even open a menu) then it hangs and locks. The keybord etc stil work but I have to ctrl-alt-delete out of AREV.

Any ideas?
