I am working through the O4W 9.2 Quick Start Guide - creating reports page 60

(1) On the Selection Tab, if you click on the "Dup" button, then change your mind, how do you get rid of the unwanted extra text in the SELECT statement? Start over?

Beside each "Dup", it would be helpful to have a "Remove" option (just like on the Field Selection Tab).

If you want to change the order of the selections, how do you do it? Changing the order of fields chosen on Field Selection Tab doesn't seem to work.

I feel I need an "update" or revise button on these Report Definition Wizard Tabs. Any changes or choices made do not reflect in the Select statement until you click "Next", and then if you want to add or amend something you have to click "Back" to go back to do them.

(2) Again, while using the wizard, the top level condensed Menu is displayed – it needs to be the O4W Reporter Menu showing all the time while working with the Report Definition Wizard.

(3) If you don't specify a "Prompt/Value" for one of the Selection Tab rows, that Field is not generated on the Search window when you run the report. It only requested "Enter Customer Number" on the Search window for "Order Report by Customer" when my Select statement was:

'SELECT ORDERS BY CUST_NO BY ID WITH CUST_NO EQ "" OR WITH ORDER_DATE GE "" BREAK-ON CUST_NO CUSTOMER_NAME ID ORDER_DATE QTY ITEM DESCRIPTION PRICE TOTAL EXT_COST GRAND-TOTAL "Grand Total" DET.SUPP'

(4) The "Press here to run" from the Completion window opens the Search window for the report in a new Firefox Tab. The Run option from the O4W Reporter Menu shows the Search window in the same Firefox Tab. Consistency?

(5) The CSV file was created successfully. Where do I specify how I then want to view that file? I may want that CSV file to open in (something like) Notepad, or Microsoft Excel Viewer or Open Office Scalc. I don't have Microsoft Excel.

(6) The PDF file was created and opened, but had three columns missing – the Description and the 2 very important money columns!

(7) I also managed to trigger this error:

  Error During Saving:
  Report definition 'ORDER_REPORT' has been changed by another user
  Please choose a new name for this report:

I do not know what I did to trigger this and was unable to repeat it. As I'm using the OI system on my pc's C: drive, and I'm the only user, this was a puzzle.

Hi, Susan.

1. In the current release, to remove a selected field, you have to go back to the Fields tab and remove it from the list of selection fields. This will remove _all_ instances of the selection field. In the next release (O4W 1.1), there is a 'del' button;

2. As discussed, you may try the 'tree' menu, and see if that works more like you'd wish;

3. Yes, if you don't specify a prompt/value, then you're not prompted for that field. Please ensure that you specify some prompt text, or an explicit value, or a subroutine that can provide that value, for all your search criteria;

4. From the completion window, when you test run the report, it's assumed that you may want to make additional changes, which is why the report is opened in a second window. When you explicitly select 'run' from the menu, it's assumed that you want to run the report as your main objective, which is why it's run in the current window;

5. Specifying how you open the CSV file is done on your PC and has nothing to do with O4W; configuring it will instead depend on which browser you're using, and which version of Windows. If you can tell me your browser and version of Windows, I can perhaps give you more explicit instructions;

6. Unfortunately, the PDF generation process in OI (which O4W uses) has no provision for printing beyond the edge of the page, and I assume your output has more columns than fits on the page? There's no good solution for that at this time, I'm afraid;

7. O4W uses "optimistic locking" to try and manage concurrency on the Web; this means that it checks for changes to a record before saving. It's possible that you had changed the report record at one time (either on the same or separate browser pane or window), and then went back to changing the report without O4W "refreshing" the copy it had. In the O4W 1.1 release, we think this has been "tightened up" to try and prevent the incorrect notice.

Hope that helps,

Geez, Bryan - I've been clicking on the tree menu from the OI opening menu for the last 20 years and have yet to get one feature loaded.

But it sort of collapses and expands spectacularly.
