Has anyone used OECGI to implement a SOAP based Web Service? (That is, where another system, probably not OpenInsight, connects to an OpenInsight system via the Internet and places orders or retrieves information such as price or stock availability, using the SOAP protocal/format.) I would love to see some sample code if possible, or hear some horror/success stories if anyone has any. Thanks!

We've done something very similar - in fact we now have a generic "server farm" which sits there accepting and processing communications via a number of protocols. It was used recently in a trial project in the UK connecting government departments via some fairly complex XML messages which will hopefully be covered in a 2 page spread in a leading Governmental Computer Journal here shortly.

What sort of information were you after?

Thanks for the response!

I have used OECGI to handle HTML requests, but no other kind. The kind of information I am after, is…

1. Does INET_EQUATES still apply to SOAP requests coming in via OECGI? (Ie can I access the XML "text" via Request?)

2. When OECGI returns the response, do we just use the DocumentType to "say" that this is a SOAP/XML response? If so, what document type do we use? If it is not the Document Type, how do we say "this is a response to a SOAP request?"

3. And last - and most importantly - I could probably work a lot of this out, if I knew anything about generating these Web requests. Is there any simple way - for example, a simple tool - of generating test Web requests using SOAP, and displaying the response back again? I am hoping there is!

My background is as a "back end" developer, not the "front end". I can probably work out the "back end" (ie OECGI and RBASIC programs) without too much difficulty, but the "front end" (ie generating the requests and handling the responses for test purposes) is all new to me. Any advice you could provide in this area would be most appreciated!
