Expanded Memory - WIN XP (AREV Specific)

I have several Dell Brand XP machines. I was having memory issues when running my Arev application when I noticed under WHO that the Expanded Memory was inactive. I ran MEM /C to make sure all the XP machines had EMS available and they all report EMS active with 16777216 available. I was executing my application by running AREV /X /M3000 and it wasn't until I changed the M3000 to M6000 that AREV recognized the expanded memory. The problem is I am not getting the same results across the board. I still have about half of the machines reporting EMS but AREV still does not recognize. Being that these machines have EMS is there anything I can do to get the EMS to recognize in AREV on my remaining XP machines?

On the machines that are failing to show EMS available in ARev I suggest you remove all USB devices. Then restart and test again.

I'd recommend that you try /XM4096 as the switch, owing to the internal organization of this expanded RAM space.

Different Dell models require different solutions. We purchased some low-end Dimension models, and I had to do the following to enable Expanded Memory- in the BIOS, disable onboard NIC, video and USB. I then installed PCI video and NIC cards, and we just do without USB. This is an issue of Intel motherboards with many integrated components which usurp the memory space required for Expanded Memory.

The buffer addresses would be visible in the device manager - agreed that there may well be conflicts in the space between 640KB and 1MB - the paging/mapping address space for expanded memory. This will certainly differ from hardware to hardware, based on peripherals etc.
