I am trying to run out application on a DOS machine and getting the following error:

FATAL ERROR IN EXPANDED MEMORY: ERROR 214 DETECTED IN MODULE I WHILE EXECUTING RTP18

Does anyone have any clues as to why AREV wont run on a DOS machine or what this error means?

What happens if you disable EMS? Either in your config.sys or by starting AREV with the /noems option?

If Arev runs under these conditions then probably you have a problem with EMS. Most likely the Page Frame needs to be reallocated to a different location.

What version of ARev, DOS, memory manager, etc.? Is the workstation standalone or networked? What network, NIC, etc.?

At the DOS prompt type

MEM /D ] C:\JUNK.TXT

TYPE C:\CONFIG.SYS ]] C:\JUNK.TXT

TYPE C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT ]] C:\JUNK.TXT

then post C:\JUNK.TXT up here

We suspect a network card or video card has its buffer somewhere in the paging area used by your expanded memory block.

If you load EMM386.EXE then be certain to use the /X…. option which

reserves memory between 640 kB and 1mB for use by expanded memory.
