Fellow Revelation Developers and Users:

There have been some rumors floating around the web recently, and I?ve received a number of emails and calls regarding a 32-bit version of OpenInsight. I?d like to settle these rumors once and for all.

You may recall that in the letter from the President of 2000, I stated emphatically that there would not be a 32-bit version of OpenInsight.

Users and developers came up to us at every roadshow and asked us ?Why won?t there be a 32-bit version?? We told them why- trouble with the Metacode, the compilers in OI, expected difficulties, source code versioning, etc.

However, after further reflection, (and repeated requests from the developer community) we decided to look at the project again, and began to do the work.

I?m thrilled to tell you now that we have working, in house, in test mode, a full 32-bit version of OpenInsight. The following pieces have been converted:

Oengine The Engine
Oinsight	The Application Manager
FormDes	The Form Designer
DWB The System Editor
LB The Database Manager
TMU The Table Builder
OICGI The CGI gateway.

The upgrade process, from a technical point of view, seems to be as easy as replacing the existing EXE and DLL files in an existing OpenInsight installation.

We have not decided on pricing, upgrade processing, or migration of user counts at this time, so please don?t ask. We will keep you up to date.

We are currently completing the OpenInsight 3.7.5 release, and will then release the TCP/IP driver. The 32-bit OI will be next. We'll announce likely release dates as our testing progresses, but please know that we are as anxious to release it as you are to have it- we just want to get it right the first time. Please contact us via email ([email protected]) if you wish to assist in the Beta tests.

This has been an exciting year ? less than a year, actually- since we took control of Revelation Software. I?m very excited about what we?ve been doing, look forward to the community?s reaction. In the next few weeks I will be mailing a ?Letter from the President? with more details. Look for it.

Thanks-

Mike Ruane

Mike,

Great News and Congratulation! Your announcement should ease and erase any doubts for AREV and non-AREV developers that selecting OI is the right choice. I'm especially impressed with the concrete progress made to date, e.g., new system editor, new form designer, new OICGI, etc.

I know that we all look forward to your continual and speedy progress in this endeavor to make OI a more viable and robust platform. As a developer, we want to work with the best tools and want the best for our clients. Giving developers a 32-bit platform is a Giant steop in the right direction.

Hip, hip, hooray. Hip, hip, horray,

This announcement is huge. Considering the dwindling market for 16 bit software, it means that Rev Tech and all the developers dependent on it's software now have a future.

All those good things displayed at the Road Show now have meaning.

Great work!

Regards,

Jim

Why couldn't you have taken over RevTech earlier. You've done more for Arev/OI for the community in the last year than has been done in the 3 years prior.

Great work - keep it up.

You have just given me (and I'm sure all AREV/OI Developers)

a renewed vision of the future.

I have been putting off converting a number of AREV apps to OI simply because I couldn't justify the effort to develop a 16-bit windows app when everything else is 32-bit.

Now I can convince the boss (my wife) that the effort will be rewarded in the long term, and that I should start the conversion ASAP.

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you !!

PS Please don't price us OLD GUYS out of the market!

I would gladly subscribe to WORKS if this is the return!
