Win 2000/XP on Novell 4.11 (Networking Products)

The Novell vipx.exe fix for Novell client 4.83 has worked wonders in speeding up our sites running Win 2000/XP with NLM 5.5 (plus uninstalling the Microsoft client and removing nw16 & vwipxspx from autoexec.nt).
Has anyone had any success with Win 2000/XP on Novell 4.11 with the NLM 1.5?
We have one site with this configuration and have not been able to get acceptable performance. The IT people at their end set this up, so it could be that something was missed, but I wanted to check if this was even possible.

Paul,
If you dont get some response how about asking Kevin to run a comparison test. Failing that I could run a trial on my 4.2 Novell system using your 1.5.
Either way I am inclined to think the the problem is site specific. The VIPX patch definitively fixes a Microsoft Win 2000 /XP IPX issue that occurs in conjunction with 4.8x shell. The server end should be OK.
Talk about it next week?

Do you have a link to the current VIPX download at Novell's site? You can reply via e-mail, if you wish:

Hi Richard,
Novell client 4.83 SP1 is now available (9 Aug 02). The list of fixes includes:
'OpenInsight slow opening records from Windows2000 to server running REVELATION.NLM'
Sounds like the vipx fix? However, I installed this at our clients site today, and double checked all other things (MS client removed, nw16/vwipxspx removed from autoexec.nt, latest version of vipx loaded in autoexec.nt) and still no joy. It takes 3 minutes to start up our application (around 10 x normal speed).
FWIW, the full SP1 bug fix list is available from:

The SP1 download is available from:

I picked up the client's NLM disks today so I'll be in touch about getting you to test this on your Novell network.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the testing you've done. We've found that the Novell Client was set to use IP as the preferred protocol. We changed this to IPX and it is now much faster, although still 2-3 times slower than other versions of Windows.
Not sure if there is anything left for us to try. I wonder if the 32-bit version will be any better in this environment (as we're rolling this out in around six weeks).
