This website lists most of the known file extensions. What directory is the file in? My guess from the above list is that it is an Adobe language plug-in, but it could be anything.
Is this a Novell system? You should be able to track the "owner" of the file.

We can state with 99.9% confidence that it is not an AREV file. That isn't to say a custom routine didn't create it, but not a system routine.
