We currently have a printing issue with a HP Laser Jet 4000 TN printer. When printing AREV reports the page will print correctly for about 1/3 of the page and then appear to "time-out" and then continue the print job on a new page with different character fonts and sizes. We have done the obvious and tried multiple Windows based drivers. HP only has two specific DOS drivers available for the 4000TN. One for WP 5.x,6.x and one for AutoCad. After contacting and speaking with HP they have asked we contact the software developer for support. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I know you said you have tried the obvious, but here is the steps I would go through.

Win9x:

1) If your accessing AREV via Win9x then make sure you printer has been captured to a port (LPT1, etc…)

2) In AREV use the PDISK LPTx (O command rather than capture commands

3) Double check your capture settings and make sure your TI or time out is set to at least 5 seconds if not more. (This is not on the details tab of the printer properties. With Novell, you will have a capture setting tab with this information. Otherwise check you login scripts.)

I'm not aware of any special drivers needed for the printer. All HP printers use the same PCL 5 language. The 4000TN only added the duplex printing capability which is just another escape sequence.

The old manual for the HP III laserjet had a complete listing of all the commands you can use to write your own printer driver. The HP 4000 manual shows only the basic codes needed (section D of your manual) plus the duplexing commands.

Or Pdisk the report to disk then copy it to the printer. It's a timing issue.
