Karl,

HERE is a link to a similar discussion along with information about where to get drivers etc.

By the way .. this information was found by hitting SEARCH (above) and then entereing ODBC. If you use this look for the documents that are 'main topic'. This way you can follow the complete thread of any conversation.

To converse with the MS Access software do I need a 16 bit ODBC Client? Im trying to take some OI data and move it over to Access. If I do need a 16bit ODBC driver then how do I obtain one? I looked at the thread that SigSolutions suggested but, the link to http://www.microsoft.com/syspro/technet/technol/odbc/prodfact/odbcqa.htm does not exist anymore. So, if I wanted to take OI data and put it into Access readable format how would I do it without those drivers?

Go to the following address:

Towards the end of the letter you have a detailed explanation of how to set up a connection to ACCESS using 32 bit drivers.

Check out the rest of the SENL letters also as they have great technical tips.

I can zip the files up and send them to you if you would like. It'll be kind of big but at least you'll have the drivers.

Let me know if you would like them.

That's a very generous offer but you might wish to check your EULA first, MS tend to dislike this sort of thing (as do most software providers )

Hi,

Yes, I agree with Dave, the Sprezzatura site has excellant instructions on how to setup OI for an ODBC connection. See http://www.sprezaturra.com/V2i1.html

Following the tips from Sprezzatura, I have been able to access (no pun intended) MS-Access, Dbase, MS-Project (which is apprently an Access structure), text, etc via the ODBC drivers.

Obtaining the drivers was fun, and I have noticed some of the URL's mentioned on this site get a "404" or file not found, you know the type of msg !! :)

Here's how to get the drivers:

1. http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom1_2/download.asp

to download DCOM95, as the information on the MS site states you need to install DCOM95 prior to the MDAC component. However, if you have an NT or 98 box, then bypass this step.

2. http://www.microsoft.com/data/mdac2.htm

to download MDAC 2.0

Be sure to download the EUCAMDAC2.DOC also.

I do not know if the 16 bit drivers are included in this pack, I doubt it, as most information appears to state you need to obtain an early version of the SDK for 16 bit ODBC drivers. The 32 bit drivers worked okay with OI, and now I am asking why would 16 bit drivers be required ?

The file from step 2 is over 6 Mb ! :)
