We have recently installed AREV on our Windows95 network. We are having problems when AREV is left idle and we use other programs, such as WP and QPRO and then try to go back to AREV. It freezes the particular station that is running several things at once. does anyone have any suggestions, as it is getting quite annoying. thanks

Here are a few tips that may solve your problem:
*Make sure that the "Always Suspend", check box is UNCHECKED, in the "Misc" tab/category of the shortcut properties.
*Check to see that you do not have the "Advanced Power Management" or "Suspend" feature, activated on your machine or that your hard drive, does not go into "Sleep" mode.
*Disable the screen saver, while using AREV. If you are running AREV from a shortcut then "right-click" on it, choose "properties" and then the "Misc" tab/category and make sure the "Allow Screen saver" option is UNCHECKED.
*If none of the methods listed above work, then you can increase the values for the C & R parameters in the command line for the LHIPXTSR.EXE file. This could either be in the batch file you created or actually in the command line of the shortcut to your AREV application. The C parameter should be set to 300 and the R to 50.
Here is an example as to how it is to be added to the command line for the LHIPXTSR.EXE:
LHIPXTSR /P/C:300/R:50

Where do these numbers come from? According to the manual, the defaults are 60 and 16 respectively. Furthermore, for the /C parameter, the explanation states that the value should be less than one half size of the server component timeout. If this is the case, how can you recommend an absolute value?
The reason I ask is that we recently changed the startup parameters for the NLM from the defaults to numbers that more closely suit our peak values according to the statistics. Also, to try to eliminate no server response errors, the /s (LH) parameter was decreased from the default to 4, and the /m (LHIPXSER) parameter was increased to 60. Packet size was also increased using the formula in the manual, resulting in a significant performance gain.

Increasing the values for C & R parameters in the command line for LHIPXTSR.EXE file did solve alot of my problems, however, I also noticed that any WIN95 machines that had MS IE 4.0 continued to have problems. Once I unistalled IE 4.0 my problems with the WIN95 machines were resolved.
Just a side note to remember if in fact you do not have Explorer 4.0 on your pc's.

I have what seems to be the same problem with Windows 95/98 hanging up when AREV is open. My problem is that even though my shortcut properties has the Always Suspend unchecked, when I launch AREV and the check the properties (via right clicking on the title bar) the Always Suspend sometimes (but not always) becomes checked again! The computer will hang when checked. I have been working on this problem all year and no one seems to know why it happens. I even bought a new computer and it still happens on this one.
If anyone solves this problem, please let me know how.

What does IE have to do problems in AREV?
