I have several users experiencing "Too many users" login message when there are plenty of licenses. They are running Arev 3.12, NLM 1.5, Novell 4.5, and Windows 95 and 98 workstations. There are 4 servers but no CD tower servers or pseudo servers. The file and print sharing has been disabled on all PCs. I am told that there has been no changes to the network system. We have rebooted the server which has allowed some of problem users back in but not all. The bizarre thing is that at the same workstation, you can log into AREV using another novell login. The problem is specific to Novell login accounts vs workstation. There seems to be no differences between the accounts. Any ideas of how the "Too many users" message could be related to a Novell login account?

Sandra,

Just a stab in the dark here, but what are the differences in concurrent sessions for Novell logins that do work and those that don't?

It shouldn't matter, but it's the only thing I can think of, unless the connection table is full on one of the other servers.

I have seen this "to many users" when the work stations have screen savers. What would happen is someone would be running AREV and not use the key pad for some time. The screen saver would kick in. Then the user would move the mouse or touch the key pad; not see their work and start another session of AREV. Their original session would be still active but minimized. Once the licensed number of users were minimzed no one else could login. Some one would have to run around to all the work stations shutting down all the unneeded mininized sessions - real pain. Also Novell has a setting for how long it holds a connection; for as long as this connection is held it count as a user. Any questions call me 1-201-822-9814

Hope this helped;

Oddly enough it turned out to be synchronization of the servers. I do not know why that would cause only some users issues but after the servers were resynchronized the problem disappeared

Thanks for the help - Sandra
