Phone number and zip code format in Report Writer (OpenInsight Specific)

It is formated on the form that needs it, I have attempted, in reporter, to format these fields correctly, but the report displays the phone # and zip code as a 10 and 9 digit number.
What am I doing wrong?

Problem solved - the two fields were symbolic fields and in table builder I did not have an output format set. Set the output to the appropriate format and it worked.
Why, when I formatted the field in Report Writer it would not acknowledge it, I have no idea. Sounds like a bug to me.
