When I try to add a column from an SQL table to a data object, I am getting the error message 'Error Browsing for Tables'.

This is a very sudden error; I added columns to a data object as recently as this morning.

Nothing on the network has changed. My connection to the SQL Server is good. I can query the SQL database using ISQL as well as ViP data objects.

Where does this error come from, do you know? What is/are the solution(s)?

Please let me know soon, as I am at a total stand-still!

Thanks and regards,

Ken Wachs

This is a very specific error message that only occurs when your are in design mode browsing for tables. If this works sometimes, then it is hard to understand how it could fail, unless the DBMS is somehow locking out the requests for some reason (or the connection is being dropped.) Has there been some change in the SQL table definition between the original definition of the data object, and the attempt to add something?

If this continues to be a reproducible problem (after re-booting and checking the DBMS out) try to detail exactly what the table/column configuration is before the AddColumns attempt, and exactly when the problem occurs.

Thanks very much. As you might have expected, the problem is gone for the moment. I did nothing at all.

It was a very strange error! I had never seen that one before. I will keep my eyes and ears open the next time it pops up.
