Producing a report using Rlist (via our report creation too) generates an error dialog showing:

Preview Report

Disk Overflow

OK

The amount of data in the report was quite small, about 10k.

4 columns were being reported.

There were two sortation and one filter.

Any idea what might cause this and possible solutions?

Could you post the RList statement that you are using?

Also, what version of OpenInsight are you using? Is the application being used over a network, and if so what version is the NOS?

Does this happen with all of the reports you attempt to run, or just with a specific report? If it is just a specific report, are there any differences between the reports that are working ok and the report that is not working?

Colin,

What about the disk overflow that the message mentioned? Did the disk really get full? This makes me think of an error OI once had, where sorts went wrong and among other things produced a temporary sort file (?) that became very, very large. It happened on workstations with station ids of 6 (?) or fewer letters, containing an "R". I think OI 3.3 must have had this error. But at least by 3.61 it was gone.

We were running OI 3.5 when the problem arose.

Have now upgraded to 3.6.1.

Network is NT with 5 user OI dev licence.

Disk space is not the problem, unless the work file was very big.

Amount of data in the report would probably fit in one page.

Rlist statement was generated from a user chose option list, but I will try and replicate and advise on this forum.

Are you still experiancing the problem after you upgraded to 3.6.1, or did the error begin appearing prior to upgrading? To be safe, make sure that you have full rights to whatever drives/directories that you will be saving/creating/modifying files in.

Colin,

What OI version?

Check your sort path. (DB Mgr)

How much free space in your sort path? Do you have rights there?

Using OI 3.5 previously, now 3.6.1.

Sort Path???

Well I'm confused.

It is empty.

Does it require a path name, or something else, as you mention free space?

What it if for?

Hi Colin,

If blank, the sort path is the OI directory. It is used for "external sorts" … in other words sorting lists (V119) greater than 64k and also large set operations (IDX_SETS).
