Yesterday, after adding a key to a table ALL INDEXES disappeared. They still seem to work AND they they show up if you want to create a new index BUT if you create a new index it doesn't show up in the listing .. nonthing shows in the listing.

Things I have tried:

1) scan repos. there were a lot of items here. I deleted them all. There is nothing in the Scan now. Still no index.

2) deleted app.dbt, copied over sysprog.dbt and then attached the tables .. still no indexes

3) backed up the app and deleted app then created and restored .. still no indexes

I have not reinstalled oi though I will try that ..

Why, if I only use OI tools to work on tables, screens etc WHY does the repository get crap? Why do indexes disappear?

I need to get my system back working .. any ideas?

dsig,

From the command line:

run list_index

Chances are you have an index table (!) that is not attached but needed. Re-attach that data file and save the db definition.

Assuming I am not way off in left field, here is the explanation:

1) When the first index is added to a table, the ! file is created

2) When the last index is removed from a table, the ! file is deleted

3) Neither of these actions updates the DBT so it is out-of-sync after either of these scenarios

Cameron,

Thanks for the quick note ..

Yes .. the indexes list from the command line.

I just tried to 'attach' the tables in the app directory. All tables are noted as already existing.

I have removed the tables and saved then added .. no difference.

When I deleted the app and recreated and restored backup I then 'added' the tables .. still no listings.

If I go to 'add' index, all columns show and those with indexes show. If I add and index the index will show up again in Add index but not show up in listing. I can not remove the indexes because there doesn't seem to be any to view.

WHY can 'add' index show the fields with indexes but 'remove' can't find any indexes.

Any other ideas how I can get my system to recognize the indexes?

Hi dsig,

Can you get an engine log of "add" vs. "remove" … is anything failing in the "remove" log?

You can always remove by modifying the DICT file, but I would like to determine the true cause of what you are seeing instead of just treating the symptoms.

THe last time I had this problem , after ages of searching and testing, I found the culprit was a TEMP dictionary. Probable from a crash when using table builder. E.G. if you have a table called POSITIONS and table builder crashes a table called TEMP_POSITIONS is created and magically ruins quite a few options in OI.

To fix simply open the original table in table builder and resave, that should delete the TEMP table.

Let me know if it works for you in your case.

Tony,

Thanks for the note .. I have looked and never found a temp file (in this instance .. although in previous problems I have found it).

I have now reloaded OI. Imagine my surprise when scanrep against this new installation shows errors for examples and ssoft!!!!!

Oh well .. I have deleted the examples app and leaving the rep problems for sysprog.
