Dual Xeon, Win2003 SP1 Server, 2 Gig mem. Can't do a clean install of OI v7.1.

I have tried in Boot.ini file:

- /nopae, but hardware DEP can't be turned off

- /noexecute=AlwaysOff, or

- /noexecute=OptIn, or

- /noexecute=OptOut, but installation always halts at Formdes.exe copying to the HD.

Anyone out there been succesfull installing OI on Win2003 server?

Revelation tech support doesn't seem to have any tricks to do this.

We've been successful - the problems started at SP1 2003.

Getting some results.

For some reason v7.1 will not install on this Win2003 server from copy of Works CD but it will install from the original Works CD?

It will install from a copy of CD to Win2000 machine.

Are you rebooting the server after making these changes as specified by the Microsoft KB document?

OF COURSE.

Problem seems to be solved. I do not seem to be able to install from WORKS CD copy to this machine (but I can install to another computers?).

Figure that out?

Installing from the original CD is working.

Can you confirm whether your server has hardware or software DEP?

I uninstalled Windows 2003 SP1 and it's working. That was definately the problem. Once I removed SP1, the DEP option is gone in System\Advanced\Performance\Settings.

That's when software DEP and the other culprit was installed. Hence removing SP1 would stop the problem.

That can't be the only solution to DEP can it?

Surely if the word got out that OI runs only if you remove SP1 then we will be viewed less than "established" or "mainstream".

Is there a longterm fix to making OI compatible with DEP when DEP is encountered? What are some of the workarounds? Maybe this warrant a white paper of something.

RTI?

The longterm solution is to fix OI - Rev have this in the pipeline. The short term solution is to play with some specific settings. We expect to release a document on this early next week.

Thanks for the document. Will review.

Meanwhile, RTI, is there an expected date when you might have a fix to ensure that OI will not be hindered by DEP.

Thanks again for your help,
