With the advent of O4W 1.1 it appears that IE 8+ (not in compatibility mode) is no longer considered a suitable browser.

Why is this?

My client's O4W website is supposed to reduce telephone support requests by offering self-service to the customers. If the users of the website get caught up in browser versions and plugins this adds to the calls instead of reducing them.

Thanks for that, but it isn't the problem. Suppressing the complaint doesn't help when a feature like "download" causes problems.

IE 8 gives the standard "Click here to download" and nothing appears.

Whereas, Firefox works just fine.

Dave,

I understand but unfortunately I don't have a solution. IMHO, the scripts being used for O4W should be fully compatible with all major browsers. I too have seen differences between how an O4W application works under IE and Firefox. Usually, it is Firefox who works as advertised.

Dave,

The reason we still promote the Google Chrome plugin (even with IE8) is that even IE8 is not as standard-compliant as other browsers.

Using the plug-in provides a better O4W experience.

It is possible to manually remove the Chrome plugin prompt. If you edit up your config record (*CFG_O4W) in the O4WCONFIG table in the Editor, field 46 should contain the script that does the chrome frame plugin. Remove and save your record. Note that if you use the "Maintain Configuration" screen, it will repopulate that value and a manual reset is needed.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm still in the process of determining with Bryan why the O4WDownload appears to work by asking IE 8 to allow a download. When IE offer the acceptance bar in the browser, if I click OK, it doesn't download the file and places the browser into the first page of the form.

Firefox works fine.

Removing the text requesting the plugin will be done, too.
