Can someone tell me how to run a form from the system editor EXEC line? Probably a no-brainer, but it's been a no-brainer kind of day.

TIA,

Tried that, but I get a 'script contains an invalid character' message.

Mike,

Sorry about that. That will work with the System Monitor. I don't recall if there is a "best" way to do it from the EXEC line of the System Editor but the following will work:

RUN START_WINDOW "Window"

Mike,

I use EXEC WINDOW_NAME from the exec line all the time. No quotes around WINDOW_NAME.

Tim,

Perhaps it's System Monitor you use and not the System Editor?

Tim,

I don't often run windows from the System Editor or Monitor. I knew one can do it with RUN START_WINDOW. START_WINDOW is fine because one can include a CreateParam. My own windows often have create parameters, so if I wanted to test them from the System *itor I'd use RUN START_WINDOW. But what about that EXEC command from the System Monitor? Are parameters allowed? I'm too lazy to try, but since the window name must be without quotes I assume parameters are out. So the reason for EXEC to exist must mainly be to launch tools included with OpenInsight.

I don't think EXEC is documented, just mentioned in passing. Ira?

Not Docced Contd: The two Exec Lines differ in how they treat upper- and lowercase letters.

I've never really tried using it with parameters either. Just normally use it to start test windows to run my dodgy code ;p

EXEC translates into a RUN START_OIWIN WINNAME and as Start_OiWin doesn't take more than one parameter it's safe to assume you can't use EXEC to pass create params…

Well it was a very old routine - 1992 I recall first seeing it! And it was superceded by Start_Window….

Yes, and our women even have names like Valborg, Herborg, Borghild and Bergljot.

And Hildegunn.
