AREV32 User Setup (AREV32)

I have OI 9.2.1 and am running AREV32 as an MDI_CHILD.
How do I go about disabling the F5 and removing some menu items from AREV32 based on OIs user rights from a table i have created.
I cannot find the source code that launches AREV32 to trigger my removal and disabling.
Thanks
Matthew

Sounds like you need the Arev manuals. Since Arev was created years before modern Windows, and OpenInsight it doesn't conform to those standards. Arev32 does use some of the OpenInsight settings, but mostly continues to use its own setup routines.
You log into OI as SYSPROG, then start AREV32. In a Command prompt enter RUNMENU STARTUP. Choose the Management menu item. This will give you some Arev32 settings for Applications, Users, Workstation and Environment.
Sounds like you want to prohibit some users from pressing F5 to the Command window, and give them custom starting menus. You do this in the Environment settings. Then, you go to the User menu and assign them a Environment that meets the needs of that User.

Dave is correct on the environment controlling rthe use of the TCL command line.
However the menus do not have a security feature in AREV or AREV32. However you can place a
V in the third position of the menu and usersnames seperated by @vm in position 2 to control who has access to
a particular menu. This wll deny access to any users when attempting to use or change this menu.

OK after consulting with the previous programmer of the company. We stumbled through how it was setup in AREV3.12 and saw how the menus were assigned and the F5 disabled with certain users.
the only problem now is when i go to set the F5 disable command in sysprog of AREV32 it does not work and all the users do not showup in the list as well. I tried disabling 1 user, mine, to be exact which was the only other one i saw and when i launched the OI program with the AREV32 in it i was still able to use the F5 even though the sysprog program says that I have it disabled.
What am I doing wrong. Any other advise would be helpful…
Thanks

Not sure how to disable the TCL in sysprog except to go to the user_environment record in sysenv for each environment you wish to disable and change position 38 to a 0.

ARev, that thing of beauty, was written in itself (mostly), so the TCL window is….a window!
So, when all else fails, think of SYSPROG as an application you can modify, and you can modify application windows, like TCL in SYSPROG. If you change the user access level, or the pre-init options, you can use your own code to prevent access based on the same security functionaily you use for your own application's windows.

I think I am not writing it correctly here on the message form.
The company I work for has about 20 employees and IT are the only ones that need the F5 and development menu option while everyone else has the F5 disabled and development menu removed. I see how it is done in AREV 3.12 and have no problems in AREV 3.12. The real Problem is that when AREV32 is inside OI 9.2.1 I can not get all the users to show up when I am logged in as Sysprog. Since Sysprog will not let me add users via AREV32. And after I disable F5 with the only user that does show up in Sysprog. I logg off of sysprog and when I log on as that one user the F5 command works like nothing has changed. So I go back into sysprog and look to see that it was saved I see that I did indeed disable the F5.
Am I missing something?
Thanks
