Deleted record not update index (AREV32)

Hello everyone,
This is in an account ("WHO" shows 9.4.0, but suspect this not accurate), which I believe had a change in language from LND_ENGLISH_INTL to LND_ENGLISH_UK.
I created a new record with a nonsense word in Description (only index on this file).
I waited for about 20 seconds and then entered a "Quick search" using "\" on key field, but did not find it.
I then deleted the record. I found this record "to be deleted" record in the ! file with this layout:
<1> = {null}
<2> = 1192 ←- the key to the record I deleted.
<3> = a multivalue list of the words I entered on the Description
<4> = \ ←- don't know the significance of this
It was only when I forced a "Rebuild" of the index on this file, did the index get updated.
I remebered in early days, there was a setting for the "delay before indexing", but hunting around, did not find this setting in AREV32. And I seem to recall this indexing parameter was removed in AREV32.
So the question is, why is this index not getting updated? For what should I look?
Robert.

Oops. What I should have tried first (delete index and recreate), WORKED!
I had noticed that when I LISTINDEX on the file, in "Details" it showed "DESC.XREF". This should have been a "red flag", but I somehow overlooked this.
Now, after del/recreate index, in "Details" when LISTINDEX, it shows "DESC_XREF".
Problem solved.
Robert.

The XREF is a red herring. I believe that what are seeing is blogged here.
