I need to add some dict items so I can extract info from SYSREPOSWINS, but haven't figured out how to get the sys dictionaries into table builder…any clues? [email protected]

Hi Don,

Is this yet another example of OI not using itself to develop itself?

Yes, but with good reason. When the system tables were originally created and populated, none of the front-end tools (probably not even the infamous "Access Window") existed, and they probably did not exist for another 2 years or so. So the next most convenient tool ;-) was used – Arev.

Actually Cam., hate to quibble, but the Access window was available, seeing as how it shipped with OE 1.0.

The problem with the Table Builder and certain system files, along with various user files is two-fold. One, the TB won't let you have a key field of 0 along with the multi-part keys. Second is the TB does not like missing values. Since some system dict fields are either non defined or have no dictionary items for them, the TB can begin to reorder them.

At least, that's how I see it, anyway.

Aaron,

No you don't! ;-) (I was referring to when many of the system dictionaries would have originally been created, which is well before OE would have shipped.)

Your summary of Table Builder's unyielding desire to neatly arrange field numbers is pretty close to what I have observed.

Look, I don't want to have an argument about it.

I guess I'll have to dust off my OI 1.0 and OE 1.0 floppies and see what files are still there. However, even for those files which starting from 2.0, the tools were completed long after the file structure was nailed down. I remember having to work in the Access window because DWB and LB wasn't quite ready yet.

Anyone know what happened to the Calvin bitmap?
